Trefort
Monument.
§ About the memorial
A memorial for the lecturers & students of ELTE who perished in the Second World War — set not as a single object but as the Trefort Garden itself. Names are cast in bronze and slipped into the joints of the campus wall: from twenty paces, a thin line; up close, an unbroken roll-call.
“Our intention was to make the garden itself the place of remembrance.”

§ The companion site
A digital register that mirrors the wall — name by name, in the same monumental type, in the same alphabetical order.
For visitors who cannot reach Budapest VIII., the register lives at emlekhely.btk.elte.hu. Each bronze plate has a page — biography, the source citation that placed the name on the wall, and where available, photographs of the person and of the plate in situ. The site uses the same monumental capital as the bronze, so the screen quietly continues the wall.
